Kennel News
2009 is coming to a close and 2010 is upon us and we here at Conway Kennels would like once again to thank you for your continued patronage.
We have seen a big resurgence in the amount of pointing dogs we are training.Years ago when pheasant hunting was real good in Eastern Washington we trained about as many pointing dogs as we did flushing dogs. With the declne of the pheasant population and the change in farming practices a lot of you that enjoyed pheasant hunting had to resort to flushing dogs. Now,with a lot of you going to Montana or the Dakotas to hunt pheasant the cover conditions and amount of birds are once more conducive to a pointing dog being very productive and fun.We have had some really good Wirehairs and Pudelpointers in the last couple of years. The really great thing about going to Montana or the Dakotas is that your young dogs get a ton of practical experience in a short time. They get enough birds in front of them that they really have a chance to meld there training with the real world of hunting.Overall we had a really good group of hunting dogs to train, some really nice pointers and a lot of real good first year duck dogs.Duck and goose hunting has been hit and miss this fall,Hope all of you had a chance to get your young dogs out for some experience in the field and duck blind.
We are looking foreword to 2010 with our group of Field Trial dogs, our older group should be very competitive this upcoming year and we have some really nice young dogs coming along. We are very lucky to have a group of owners that work so hard together and help each other out come rain or shine. They are truly the best and most fun group I have had the pleasure of working with for years.
Conway Kennels is truly a family run business. Besides Charlotte and me,Brooke Jr.trains the hunting dogs and his wife Mel handles the boarding end of the business.Brooke Jr. and Mel have three kids,Frank,Lauren and Kylie who all work and contribute to making the kennel and business run smooth. Frank and Lauren help out throwing birds and doing all kinds of odd jobs, while Kylie helps her mom with the cats and rabbits and all the small animals. Mel does a wonderful job with the boarding part of the business and allows Charlotte some time to ride and show her horse while also enjoying grandaughter Kylie riding and showing.
